This is probably the most widely-used training site in monterey and carmel. Parking is relatively plentiful, though can get difficult during the summer before noon (after noon you can park in the trailer spots, which opens things up a bunch).
The entry is pretty easy, with a nice even sand beach and surf-zone. This area is fairly well-protected from most of the prevailing swells and winds.
A long rock wall provides plenty of areas for sea life to make homes. If you kick out to the end of the rock wall you will almost always be greeted by several sea lions.
This area is a particularly nice area for night diving. Octopi are plentiful, and a common site is Rainbow Nudibranchs (Dendronotus iris) eating the tube anemones.
