We swam out from the launch ramp and descended just off Granite Point where it's about 50ft deep. While following the rock walls out to deeper water we found two pairs of Archidoris odhneri that were probably mating, and a group of three Spot Prawns (Pandalus platycerus). There wasn't a whole lot of fish life beyond some small rock fish and sculpins, but we did spot one unusually fat Cabezon.

Right as we turned the dive I stumbled over a 5ft long Shovelnose guitarfish (Rhinobatos productus) It was sort of olive colored and laying on a sand and gravel bottom in a channel right between two large rocks. We hung around and watched it for a while but it never moved. I had never seen one of those before; apparently they mostly hang out in the sloughs.

On the way back we followed a shallower line along the wall and ran into some nice patches of hydrocoral and corynactis.

Since we had lingered for a while in the deeper areas the single tankers were running low on gas so we had to ascend along some kelp quite a ways out. That was a long swim back; I think I need a scooter. :-) Despite the swim it was an excellent dive, and sure beat working.

We did a second dive, but I'll let Mark write that one up.
