Midweek night dive time. There was a howling north wind which was coming straight in on the breakwater making conditions there truly ugly. Might have been good conditions for a rescue class but night diving in doubles with a camera was clearly not going to happen. John pointed out that Lover's Point might offer some protection so we cruised over there to give it a look. Indeed, the entry in Lover's cove was flat and it looked OK.

We geared up while watching the eclipse and then went for a dive. Vis was a mediocre 8-10 feet but tolerable at least. Right when we dropped down we were treated to a large school of Mexican Shad which seemed to be mesmerized by our lights. Later w found several very large (8" or more) Plainfin Midshipman. Near the end of the dive we found a crevice that had a large number of small Red Abalone. Surge was mild in the cove where it was protected by the point and moderate outside of there.
